Ceteareth-25 is a nonionic emulsifier that is the 25-mole ethoxylate of a blend of cetyl and stearyl alcohols. It is a free-flowing, non-dusting microbead with an HLB of 15-17.

Ceteareth-25 dissolves in water and alcohol to form a colloid or a clear solution. It is soluble in vegetable and mineral fats and oils, as well as with fatty alcohols, fatty acids, mono- and di- stearates, and with polyethylene glycols.

Ceteareth-25 can be used as an emulsifier to manufacture oil-in-water emulsion preparations. It can be used with a wide range of polarities, preferably in combination with Ceteareth-6 (and) Stearyl Alcohol to produce creams or lotions. Combinations with other emulsifiers form cream bases that can absorb up to 90% water.

In addition, Ceteareth-25 enhances the stability of colloids and dispersed systems. In higher concentrations (21–30%), it can act as a gel-forming agent, enabling gel-like brushable products. Ceteareth-25 is typically used at 1-5%.
