PEG-8 Distearate is a nonionic emulsifier, a diester of vegetable stearic acid with polyethylene glycols, with an average molecular weight of 400. It is in solid form, and the pH of a 3% aqueous solution is 6, with an HLB Value of 8.1.

Thanks to its oil solubility, PEG-8 stearate is suitable for oil-based applications. It is compatible with many amphoteric, anionic, cationic, and nonionic surfactants and is used as a primary and secondary emulsifier.

PEG-8 Distearate is manufactured to meet the Kosher requirements designated by the Orthodox Union (OU). It is also known under the trade name Lumulse™ 42-S.
