Polyglyceryl-4 Diisostearate/Polyhydroxystearate/Sebacate is an emulsifier also known under the trade name ISOLAN® GPS for formulating low-viscosity water-in-oil lotions with an exceeding light skin feel. This versatile PEG-free emulsifier can emulsify all types of cosmetic oils and can be used for the formulation of skin-care, sun-care, or pigment-containing Color Cosmetic products.
Water-in-oil emulsions are known to offer multiple benefits: like enhanced adsorption onto the lipophilic upper layer of the skin; the reduction of evaporative water loss from the skin, and – of course – excellent water resistance. Nevertheless, customers often prefer a lighter feel than typically results from water-in-oil emulsions.
Polyglyceryl-4 Diisostearate/Polyhydroxystearate/Sebacate is the first emulsifier that combines these contradictory requirements, offering at the same time excellent formulation stability and pleasant application properties. It enables stable water-in-oil lotions with a very low oil phase (down to 18-20%). Thus, the lotions have a less oily skin feel, a lower emulsion viscosity, and enhanced spreadability.
The good compatibility of ISOLAN® GPS with high amounts of silicone oils - like Cyclopentasiloxane – is of high importance for formulating light water-in-oil emulsions. Since ISOLAN® GPS is a liquid emulsifier, cold-processing of water-in-oil formulations is also possible. It can either be used as a single emulsifier or as a co-emulsifier to reduce the overall viscosity of an existing formula.Related ingredients
