Polysorbate 65 is a stearic acid triester of sorbitol, and its mono- and dianhydrides are copolymerized with approximately 20 moles of ethylene oxide. It is a tan solid soluble in vegetable oils and mineral oils. It is insoluble in water.

Polysorbate 65 is known for its low toxicity and lack of skin irritation characteristics. It is an oil-in-water emulsifier with an HLB value of 10.5 and a stabilizer for lotions, creams, and solid personal care formulations.

Polysorbate 65 is especially effective with sorbitan esters, such as sorbitan tristearate. It has numerous regulatory approvals, including TSCA (US), DSL (Canada), ENCS (Japan), AICS (Australia), ECL (Korea), SWISS (Switzerland), and PICCS (Philippines).
