Polysorbate 60 is a polyethoxylated sorbitan ester, a powerful oil-in-water emulsifier. Due to its mildness, this ingredient is used extensively as emulsifiers and solubilizers in skincare products and even pharmaceuticals.
Polysorbate 60 produces stable emulsions, especially when used with cetyl or stearyl alcohols. As a result, it is used in numerous creams, gels, and cleansing products. In addition, it is a safe ingredient as permitted for use as a multi-purpose food additive (listed in 21CFR 172.836).
