PPG-15 Stearyl Ether is a polyoxypropylene (15 moles) ether with stearyl alcohol, an exceptional emollient ingredient with excellent solvent and emulsifying (HLB value of 7) properties. It is a clear liquid soluble in mineral oil, isopropyl ethers, cottonseed oil, ethanol, isopropanol, and hexadecyl alcohol. It is insoluble in water, propylene glycol, and glycerin.

Several medicinal products containing PPG-15 Stearyl Ether have already been commercialized in the EU and the USA, as it has a long history of safe use in cosmetic products. It is chemically stable and resistant to extreme pH conditions,

When combined with selected emulsifiers, PPG-15 Stearyl Ether can create liquid crystal structures known as “oleosomes” even at low concentrations. Oleosomes are oil-in-water emulsion structures with multiple layers of water, emollient, and emulsifier surrounding them.

Structures like oleosomes formed with PPG-15 Stearyl Ether can offer several benefits to the formulation: improving the dissolution of poorly water-soluble active ingredients, controlling the release of actives, and/or protecting and facilitating the transport of “fragile” molecules.

PPG-15 Stearyl Ether also acts as a penetration enhancer to deliver actives through the skin. It provides a velvety skin feel, good moisturization, and enhances skin elasticity.
