TEA-Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Collagen is a fatty acid protein derivative that has been neutralized with triethanolamine improving its foaming and solubility. It has surfactant and wetting properties similar to Potassium Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Collagen and has found broad application in formulations where improved stability and compatibility are important.
TEA-Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Collagen is prepared by first hydrolyzing the collagen protein under mild conditions, then reacting the terminal amino group and side chain lysine amino groups with a reactive fatty acid reagent. As a consequence of the reaction, the fatty acid group is covalently bonded to the polypeptide chain. Later TEA neutralization improves foaming and solubility. TEA-Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Collagen is used in shampoos, hair dyes, and relaxers.
