Honey is a sweet, viscous, golden-colored liquid food. Bees gather nectar from flowers and transport it back to the hive in their honey sacs. The nectar is then ripened into honey by inverting a significant portion of its sucrose sugar into the sugars levulose (fructose) and dextrose (glucose) and removing excess moisture.
Honey is somewhat acidic and has mild antiseptic properties, which make it beneficial in treating burns and lacerations. It was practically the only source of sugar available to the ancients and was valued for its medicinal benefits.
Honey Extract is a straw-colored, transparent liquid with low odor and good stability. It is an excellent conditioning agent for use in skin care treatment products. Its active, naturally derived ingredient has been used safely and effectively since the time of Cleopatra to refine wrinkles and other signs of aging skin.
Honey contains many complex saccharides, oligosaccharides, and gluconic acid, which provide moisturizing, soothing, and conditioning properties. Honey Extract is a light to medium yellow liquid with a characteristic pleasant odor and can be used as low as 3% for extra gentle stimulating action.Honey extract is most effective in acid-stable emulsions, polymer gels, or naturally derived marine hydrogels. As an active, it works well with Green Tee and Kola Nut-derived ingredients. Honey's antiseptic qualities make this valuable extract available in lotions for wounds, sores, bruises, and skin treatment products.
Fermented Honey Extract
Honey extract fermented with a microorganism, purified, and standardized to a lactic acid activity level of 60%. It is a straw-colored, transparent liquid with low odor and good stability.
Fermented Honey Extract is an excellent exfoliating and conditioning agent for skin care treatment products. Its active ingredient, naturally derived lactic acid, has been used safely and effectively since the time of Cleopatra for refining wrinkles and other signs of aging skin.
Honey contains many complex saccharides, oligosaccharides, and gluconic acid, which provide moisturizing, soothing, and conditioning properties. Fermented Honey Extract can be used as low as 3% for extra gentle stimulating action or up to 15% for maximum exfoliating activity.
Fermented Honey Extract can be combined with other alpha and beta hydroxy acids up to a suggested maximum cosmetic use level of 10% acids. A lower finished product pH will increase biological activity and irritation potential, so a tight specification for pH range is appropriate.Depending on the concentration of Fermented Honey Extract used and the functional activity desired, the finished product pH is suggested to be between 2.5 and 3.5, with a deviation of ± 0.5 pH units. As with all alpha hydroxy acid formulations, the finished product should be patch tested on humans for safety before marketing.
