Citronella (Cymbopogon Nardus) oil is a lemony, uplifting aroma. The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the fresh, partly dried, or dried grass. It is also known as Citronella Oil Ceylon, Cymbopogon Nardus Rendle Oil, Andropogon Nardus, Srilanka Citronella, Lenabuta Citronella, Citronella Oil Java, Cymbopogon Winterianus Jowitt Oil, Nardus, Nard Grass, Mana Grass.

Cymbopogon Nardus oil properties are antiseptic, antispasmodic, bactericidal, deodorant, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, febrifuge, fungicidal, insecticide, stomachic, tonic, vermifuge.

Historically, Citronella oil has been used as a fragrance and remedy in many cultures. It has been used for fever, intestinal parasites, digestive and menstrual problems, excessive perspiration, oily skin, cold, flu, minor infections, fatigue, headaches, migraine, and neuralgia, as a stimulant and insect repellent.

Mixed with cedarwood oil in Virginia, it was a popular remedy against mosquito attacks before the advent of DDT and modern insecticides. Cymbopogon Nardus oil blends well with sandalwood, patchouly, geranium, lemon, bergamot, orange, cedarwood, and pine.

Citronella oil may cause allergic reactions or dermatitis in some individuals. Avoid during pregnancy.
