Dipentaerythrityl Tetrabehenate/Polyhydroxystearate

Dipentaerythrityl Tetrabehenate/Polyhydroxystearate (known under the trade name Pelemol® DP-144B) is the reaction product of Dipentaerythritol, Tetrapolyhydroxystearate acid, and behenic acid. It is 100% active, hydrophobic, tacky, and substantive.

Dipentaerythrityl Tetrabehenate/Polyhydroxystearate is a tightly bound oligomeric ester, containing 10 ester sites, and is more spherical in configuration rather than a planer. Although hydrophobic, it tightly holds up to three times its gram molecular weight in water.

It is the high electron density ester linkages and compact configuration that allow for a high degree of hydrogen bonding with water. Thus Dipentaerythrityl Tetrabehenate/Polyhydroxystearate provides both transfer resistance and humectant action.

The humectant action is bi-functional, providing occlusive hydration and external moisturization at the same time. Furthermore, Pelemol DP-144B is the mixed origin, vegetable/synthetic derived, and is tasteless and odorless. Indicated uses include lipstick and lip products, night creams, glossy mascara, make-up products, lanolin replacement, and non-ionic water/oil emulsifiers.
