Phytantriol compound with three hydroxyl groups on one side and a long saturated hydrocarbon chain on the other side of the molecule. It is a slightly yellowish transparent viscous liquid with a characteristic faintly sweetish odor at room temperature. At lower temperatures, it is a waxy paste.

Phytantriol has a density of approximately 0.9 g/ml at 20 °C. It is soluble in natural, synthetic, and mineral oils, ethanol, and propylene glycol and insoluble in water. It is dispersible in glycerol and dimethicone and suitable for hair and skin care applications.

In skin care applications, Phytantriol enhances the moisture retention capacity and helps keep the skin smooth and supple. In hair care preparations, it helps retain the hair's moisture by reducing the loss of water from the hair. Phytantriol protects the hair from mechanical damage through combing.

In addition, Phytantriol increases the penetration of Panthenol, other vitamins, and amino acids into the hair shaft while providing a gloss to dull and damaged hair. It is used as an additional component in shampoos, shower products, and hair care preparations.

Phytantriol is a delicate moisturizer with good moisture retention properties in skin care products. It is also used as a UV-filter-spreading booster in sun care applications. It is used in vitamin creams, sun creams, hair shampoos, rinses, hair treatments, and mousses.
