Oligopeptide-10 is a 15-amino-acid-long peptide with the sequence Phe-Ala-Lys-Ala-Leu-Lys-Ala-Leu-Leu-Lys-Ala-Leu-Lys-Ala-Leu. It is a water-soluble white powder, compatible with all emulsion types in the 5-7 pH range. It exhibits a broad-spectrum antibacterial (bacteriocide) action against Gram-positive bacteria including Cutibacterium acnes (formerly called Propionibacterium acnes).

Binding to negatively charged lipoteichoic acids on the outer side of bacterial membranes, Oligopeptide-10 targets cytoplasmic membranes inducing osmotic disbalances and bacterial cell death. Thanks to the unique action mechanism, Gram-positive bacteria can't develop resistance against this peptide similar to antibiotics, as it is not involved in enzymatic processes and the action mechanism is more mechanical.

Eliminating harmful bacteria, Oligopeptide-10 lessens skin redness and irritation, exposing a healthy, radiant, and uniform appearance. It is a safe ingredient for skin care preparations without toxicity, with low irritation and sensitization profile, and is non-mutagenic. In addition, Oligopeptide-10 improves the skin's natural defense mechanisms.

Oligopeptide-10 is used in modern anti-acne applications. It has good compatibility with salicylic acid and other anti-acne ingredients that work synergically providing the best results. Many clinical trials with preparations containing this antibacterial peptide showed a noticeable decrease in red and blotchy spots and acne-induced blemishes.
