Butcher’s Broom (Ruscus Aculeatus; Butcherbroom) was first used as an animal repellent and barrier in the meat trading industry. Years later, it was used to scrub chopping blocks and decorate meat platters.

The young herb shoots can be eaten much like asparagus. The dried rootstock is a diuretic and vasoconstrictor.

Ruscus Aculeatus Root Extract is derived from a rhizome, a light to medium amber liquid with a characteristic odor. It is soluble in any proportion of water, and the pH range of the solution is 4.0 - 6.5 at 25 °C.

Ruscus Aculeatus Root Extract is used in astringents, toners, and other skin care products for normal to oily skin types. It is also an excellent ingredient in hair care products for normal to oily hair. The recommended usage level is 5 - 10% in skin and hair care products.
