Ground ivy (Glechoma Hederacea) was one of the plants used by the early Saxons to clarify their beers before hops was introduced. Glechoma Hederacea was also considered an excellent cooling beverage, known in England as Gill Tea, and was used to purify the blood.

Ground ivy has been used to treat coughs, nervous headaches, kidney complaints, and indigestion. High in vitamin C, Glechoma Hederacea has also been used to treat scurvy and is considered to have diuretic, astringent, tonic, and gentle stimulant properties.

A snuff made from the dried leaves has been used to relieve a congested headache. As a poultice, it has been applied to bruises and "black eyes."

Glechoma Hederacea Extract is a light to medium amber liquid with a characteristic odor. Ground ivy extract is used in skin creams, lotions, toners, astringents, gels, facial masks, and bath products.
