Serenoa Serrulata fruit extract is a highly purified (>90%) lipophilic extract of Saw Palmetto berries rich in fatty acids. It is decolorized up to yield light yellow color. Saw Palmetto berries extract is a preservative-free, Ecocert-approved natural ingredient.
Fatty acids in Saw Palmetto extract are known to inhibit 5-alpha-reductase, an enzyme essential in the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. This activity makes the ingredient helpful in relieving acne-prone and oily skin and preventing excessive hair loss. It is also known to inhibit pro-inflammatory enzymes (COX-2, 5-lipoxygenase) and leukotriene B4, making it suitable for use on skins prone to irritation.
