Biopol™ β

Biopol™ β is a combination of naturally derived materials that helps to control sebum and reduce microbial flora associated with acne blemishes. Biopol fl is an aqueous, water-soluble product based on modified glucomannan derived from the Japanese Konjac tuber (root), and the active extract of the Black Willow.

Glucomannans are high-molecular-weight heteropolysaccharides consisting of glucose and mannose monomer units. Rich in glucomannans, Konjac tuber extract in powder form is an excellent source of this carbohydrate. Through a series of proprietary chemical reactions, we are able to modify the carbohydrate structure.

Alkyl sulfonate chains are grafted onto the sidechain groups of the polysaccharide molecule creating a material with both hydrophilic and lipophilic properties. Extracted from the bark of the Black Willow (Salix nigra), willow bark extract has been used for centuries as a mild analgesic, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory. The bark is rich in naturally complexed salicylic acid.

Topically, the extract (standardized to 10% salicylic acid) has been proven to enhance the cell renewal of the epidermis and reduce skin flora implicated in the formation of acne. Additionally, willow bark extract provides natural β-hydroxy acid activity without skin irritation, commonly associated with the topical application of synthetic salicylic acid. Biopol fl reduces the surface tension of oil and facilitates its dispersion into droplets. These droplets are distributed evenly along the skin's surface, minimizing their appearance and feel. When incorporated into cosmetic formulations, it will help to control the flow of the natural skin lipids over the surface of the skin, leaving the skin feeling more natural.

The willow bark extract contained in Biopol™ β is a gentle but effective alternative to synthetic salicylic acid, providing both cell renewal and antimicrobial benefits with little irritation.
