4-Butylresorcinol is one of the stable derivatives of Resorcinol (1,3 dihydroxybenzene), which is also a tyrosinase inhibitor thanks to a similar structure (free OH groups in specific positions of the aromatic ring). Blocking one of the crucial enzymes in the melanin synthesis cascade lessens hyperpigmentation, blotches, and freckles.

Incorporated in skin care applications, 4-Butylresorcinol significantly reduces UV-induced forearm pigmentation. Preventing melanin production, it is a powerful skin-whitening agent that is much more stable and effective than conventional lightning ingredients.

Thanks to its relatively small molecule size,  4-Butylresorcinol rapidly penetrates deeper layers of the skin, exposing a uniform, brighter, and radiant complexion. It has a light-beige color, soluble in most organic solvents, but slightly soluble in water. 4-Butyl resorcinol is a safe and hypo-allergenic ingredient.
