Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract is derived from the peel of Japanese mandarin (Satsuma), a citrus-based inhibitor of tyrosinase, one of the key enzymes responsible for melanin production. It is also known under the trade name Melaslow™ from Sederma.
Incorporated in skin care applications, Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract acts as a skin-lightening agent that reduces age spots and evens out the complexion.
In vitro tests showed that Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract causes a decrease in melanin synthesis. In in vivo tests, 71% of panelists saw a significant reduction in age spot pigmentation.
