Trimoist is a botanica complex, a natural and safe way to moisturize the skin. The principal function of the skin is to protect us against dehydration. Trimoist contains the three essential elements for natural support of the skin in moisture keeping. Special lipids in Trimoist integrate with the naturally present lamellar lipid barrier to maintain the water-tightness of the skin.
Polysaccharides (connected sugars) in Trimoist form a protecting film on the outside of the skin where they tightly bind water molecules. The third group of elements are humectants, small compounds surrounded with water that penetrate into deeper skin layers to moisturize from the inside.
Trimoist is safe because it does not contain like most other moisturizers free sugars, like glucose or fructose. These are cheap but dangerous humectants because they destroy in a reaction, called glycation, the important skin proteins collagen and elastin, which leads to loss of skin elasticity and wrinkle formation. It contains carnosine, a peptide-like substance that was shown to actively inhibit the naturally occurring glycation reaction in the skin.
Trimoist contains the lipids Stearoyl lactylate, Cetyl alcohol, and Oleic acid triglyceride that spontaneously form lamellar lipid structures and phytosterols that enhance the barrier function of the lamellar lipids. CM-Glucan is the polysaccharide that forms the protecting outer film. Glycerin and lactate are safe, naturally occurring humectants.Besides skin-like moisturizing, this complex is also an anti-aging system. It builds up water reservoirs outside and inside the skin and counteracts the naturally occurring aging process by inhibiting glycation.

Is there proof of efficacy for Trimoist?
In a clinical study with 20 women a product with 5% Trimoist was tested against a product with a common moisturizer. Skin areas on the inner side of the forearm were first washed with an SDS solution to impair the lipid barrier.
After application of the test products (o/w emulsions containing Trimoist), skin parameters such as hydration, smoothness, and firmness were measured. Trimoist increased skin hydration after three days and performed clearly better than a common moisturizer. Trimoist improved also the other skin parameters, firmness, and smoothness.
