Optiphen

Optiphen is a paraben- and formaldehyde-free preservative complex, a liquid that consists of Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol. The optimal combination provides board spectrum protection against microbes and excellent skin fill of a final product.

Optiphen is approved globally in various personal care products, including aqueous and anhydrous systems and emulsions. It has no pH restrictions and is compatible with most raw materials. The recommended use level is 0.75-1.5% of the total formulation weight.

Optiphen is paraben-free, however, and is a valuable tool in our cosmetic preservative toolboxes. Adding Caprylyl Glycol to this preservative formula potentiates it, enhancing the effectiveness of the Phenoxyethanol.

Notes: Up to 2% of the population will be sensitive to Phenoxyethanol, exhibited by a warm feeling or redness in delicate tissue areas such as the face, eyes, and neck and on the thinner skin of babies and children.
