Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 is a synthetic lipopeptide (known as Pal-KMO2K, methionine with a dioxygenated sulfur atom) with the sequence Pal-Lys-Met(O2)-Lys. It is a matrikine-mimetic peptide that stimulates the production of more than six essential components of ECM (extracellular matrix). Sederma designed it to provide an alternative to hyaluronic acid and collagen injections while supporting an anti-aging claim.
This active ingredient provides noticeable and clinically proven filling and anti-wrinkle effects, acting on multiple skin layers such as the epidermis, the dermal-epidermal junction, and the dermis. Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 is a multifunctional active ingredient in Sederma's iconic complexes VoluLip™ and Matrixyl™ synthe'6™, providing incredible results—pulpier lips and rejuvenated skin.
In vivo and in vitro tests showed that Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 acts on two layers of the skin:
- In the epidermis, it promotes the production of laminins, fibronectin, hyaluronic acid (HA), and CD44 protein (responsible for anchoring HA in ECM).
- In the dermis, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 stimulates the synthesis of collagens (I, III, and IV), fibronectin, and hyaluronic acid (HA).
Incorporated in skin and lip care applications, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 fights against signs of dermal aging (including fine lines and deep wrinkles), improves the condition, and minimizes skin imperfections, exposing a youthful, healthy, and radiant appearance.
