Antioxidant

The term Antioxidant generally refers to compounds that are used to stop the free radical lipid oxidation process. The phenolic AOs BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) and BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) are the most important ingredients presently used. They act as radical scavengers, strongly inhibiting radical chain reactions.

Metal ions catalyze radical generation and product deterioration. Therefore, chelating agents are often combined with phenolic antioxidants to form synergistic mixtures, enhancing the efficacy of the specific free radical scavengers.

Product deterioration is not only due to oxidative radical generation (autoxidation), which is most prominent in the case of natural oils, unsaturated fatty acids, and certain fragrances. Direct exposure to light can also result in photolytic radical generation, which has to be efficiently controlled using antioxidants. Therefore, products filled in transparent or translucent packaging and preparations directly exposed to light during use (e.g., bar soaps) often contain antioxidants as protectants.

Moreover, UVs can be used in these cases to reduce the degree of photolysis. Generally, water—and/or oil-soluble benzophenone derivatives are applied. If not, photofading of colored formulations, reduction of viscosity in gels and shampoos, and loss of fragrance activity are often observed.

After application, antioxidants in personal care products protect cell membranes and DNA in the nucleus from free radicals and oxidative damage. Many botanical extracts and oils, especially those derived from plants growing in extreme conditions, contain considerable amounts of potent natural antioxidants effective against many types of reactive species.

Phytosteryl Canola Glycerides is a bioactive ingredient that offers caring properties by improving the skin barrier function and protection against environmental stress.

Pikea Robusta Extract is obtained from sea red algae and has been shown to inhibit the formation of free radical nitric oxide. The exact mechanism of action is unknown at this time but studies have been performed to demonstrate the extract’s efficacy.

Plantago Lanceolata Leaf Extract is a clear orange to brown liquid, a natural ingredient called “The Lance Against Skin Damage,” as it reduces signs of aging due to its antioxidant properties.

Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia Volubilis) seed oil is an organic ingredient, a perfect source of omega acids for skincare formulations.

Pollen is as per scientific diction the male principle of the plant which is transported by the wind or the bees to the female flower to pollinate it. Pollen is the product, collected and formed into grain by the bees. The pollen is collected by bees with specially developed legs (Hosea).

Bee pollen is a natural source of most known nutritional elements. It has been used as a healer of wounds and as a complete food with many essential vitamins, minerals, and fats.

Polygonum Bistorta Root Extract is obtained from the root of Bistort and is rich in chlorogenic acid, gallic acid, and polyphenols.

Japanese knotweed root extract leaves remarkable antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects on the skin. Polygonum cuspidatum speeds up the wound healing process, protecting skin fibroblasts, lessening inflammation, and stimulating collagen organization.
Studies have shown that Pomegranate (Punica granatum) extract has a high level of antioxidants, containing phytoestrogens, punicic, and linolenic acids, all of which prevent the breakdown of collagen fibers.
Pomegranates promote the regeneration of cells in the two most important layers of healthy skin, the epidermis and dermis.

The fruit of the Apricot tree (Prunus Armeniaca) was said to make one loving and kind, and the leaves were carried in sachets to attract love. The pulp was combined with other natural ingredients in creams, lotions, and facial masks for cosmetic use.

Prunus Domestica Seed Oil is the common prune kernel oil obtained by cold pressing the almond of the kernel of the dehydrated plum, which is then filtered. It is a cold-pressed, golden-colored, and wonderfully perfumed oil.

Glycation occurs from the reaction of glucose and a protein that produces AGEs (Advanced Glycation Products), forming stable brownish-yellow compounds in the skin, hair, and the body as a whole.

The Guava (Psidium Guajava) fruit has been used to treat high blood pressure, poor circulation, acidosis, asthma, prolonged menstruation, and obesity. Guavas are processed into jams, jellies, and preserves, and they are also found in cosmetic applications.

Abundant in flavanoid isoflavones, Kudzu roots extract leaves potent antioxidant, mild estrogenic, and skin whitening effects. It also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory actions.

The kudzu plant (L. Pueraria lobata) is a plant of renowned beauty and versatility. The first written mention of the plant as a medicine is in the ancient herbal text of Shen Nong (circa A.D. 100).

Punica Granatum Sterols is derived from pomegranate seed oil by first heat sterilizing it and then fractionating to isolate the fraction rich in sterols. It is a white to light yellow waxy paste with a characteristic odor.

Quintescine™ IS is a peptide-based complex ingredient that mimics glutathione action leaving antioxidant, anti-glycation, and anti-aging effect on the skin.

Raifortaise is a plant enzyme complex from Sederma based on horseradish peroxidase and caffeic acid. It protects skin by detoxifying hydrogen peroxide and the superoxide anion, mimicking the free radical scavenging activity of Superoxide Dismutase and Catalase.

It contains high levels of vitamin E. Raspberry (Rubus idaeus) Seed Oil is deeply nourishing and softening; it is incredible for dry skin conditions. It also includes high amounts of essential fatty acids.
This substance has two natural, stimulating effects: it tightens the surface of the skin by creating a natural, elastic film and leaves your skin feeling fresh and silky. This „patch effect” allows additional ingredients to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin more effectively.
Red clover extract has an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect. In addition, it improves hair density and protects cells against early aging.
