Emollient
Emollients are among the most versatile and essential ingredients used in personal care products today. They allow formulators to control the final product's all-important feel.
Emollients are designed to help formulators deliver particular sensory experiences into personal care formulations. Properties important in this class of ingredients are firmness, spreadability, greasiness, absorbency, slipperiness, gloss, and others.
But beyond that, emollients can provide a range of functionalities – from moisturization, solubilization, and lubrication to improving skin's elasticity and substantivity and adding gloss.
Careful selection of an emollient can invigorate the formula, making it perfect for the application. So what's the problem? There are literally thousands of choices of emollients available for evaluation—and a product needs to be finished right away.Erucyl Erucate is a long-chain, liquid-wax ester (LCLW) with properties similar to jojoba oil. It is derived from high erucic acid rapeseed (HEAR) oil and has excellent boundary lubrication and thermal characteristics. It is a clear yellow liquid.
Ethylhexyl Benzoate is an ester of benzoic acid, 2-Ethylhexyl (branched chain) alcohol that provides excellent solubilization for active ingredients and solids for sunscreens. It has a light dry feel and provides moisturization that leaves a soft, smooth after-feel on the skin.
In medieval times, Fennel (Foeniculum Vulgare) was employed to protect against witchcraft and other evil influences. Foeniculum Vulgare was cultivated by Romans for its aromatic fruits and succulent, edible shoots.
Glycereth-7 Benzoate is a colorless to slightly yellow viscous liquid. It is dispersible with water and castor oil and exhibits self-emulsifying properties, enabling dense formulations that tend to deposit on the skin.
Glycereth-7 Triacetate is a triester of acetic acid and Glycereth-7. It is a clear, light yellow liquid miscible with water, propylene glycol, and ethanol. Its saponification value is in the 305 – 330 range.
Glyceryl Ascorbate is a vitamin C derivative produced by binding glycerin to ascorbic acid. It has a vitamin C-like skin-conditioning effect and a convincing luxury sensory texture, making it one of the best vitamin C derivatives for professional cosmetics.
Glyceryl Behenate is a monoester of glycin with behenic acid (C22). It is a high-molecular-weight solid ester that melts at about 70°C, and its properties are similar to those of Behenyl Behenate. It is an off-white to yellow coarse powder insoluble in water, ethanol, and propylene glycol.
Glyceryl Diisostearate is an ester (diester) of glycerin and isosteric fatty acid. It is a non-sticky emollient with excellent pigment dispersibility.
Glyceryl Dioleate is an ester of glycerin and oleic acid prepared from natural edible sources (usually canola oil). It is an edible, multi-functional, oil-soluble emulsifier used in food, personal care, and other industries.
Glyceryl Hydroxystearate is an off-white waxy solid that functions principally as an auxiliary emulsifier in personal care preparations. Its waxlike properties approach those of beeswax. It has an HLB value of 3.4.
Glyceryl Isostearate is a glycerin monoisostearate ester, a highly substantive, rich, liquid emollient derived from isostearic acid. It offers low HLB emulsifying properties and provides soft conditioning, good moisturization, and excellent spreading in liquid personal wash applications.
Glyceryl Polymethacrylate is a non-drying lubricant whit excellent water solubility. It is a clear, mildly acidic (pH: 4.7 - 5.5) multi-functional moisturizer that enhances the feel and lubricity of formulations.
Glyceryl Stearate Citrate is a combination of glycerin mono-/distearates and citric acid esters from mono- and diglycerides. It is a natural, edible emulsifier for modern oil-in-water creams and lotions.
Glycogen is a highly branched polysaccharide consisting of glucose units found in animal tissues and plants. Its molecular weight is 106 to 107, and it is used as an animal energy source or a depo.
Glycol Distearate is a diester of stearic acid with ethylene glycol, a waxy solid used as an emulsifier (HLB value of ~ 5.5), emulsion stabilizer, and opacifier.
Glycol Stearate is an ethylene glycol monostearate or EGMS, an ester of ethylene glycol with stearic fatty acid.
Gossypium Herbaceum Seed Extract is derived from seeds of Levant cotton, a botanical that conjures visions of natural materials and benefits from folklore and actual performance data. It combines the feeling of softness, freshness, and comfort.
